Attorneys and counsellors

Steady counsel when it matters most.

Harbor & Lane is a small law firm for individuals, families and local businesses. We listen first, explain the options in plain language and tell you what we think, including when the answer is not what you hoped.

Areas of practice

Where we can help.

Six areas, each handled by people who work in them every week. If your matter sits outside them, we will say so and point you elsewhere.

  1. Family law

Divorce, parenting plans, support and agreements. We help you understand each step and what it means for your household.

  2. Employment

Contracts, workplace disputes and separation terms, for individuals and for small employers.

  3. Business and contracts

Forming a company, reviewing agreements and settling disagreements between partners or suppliers.

  4. Real estate

Purchase and sale paperwork, lease review and boundary or title questions.

  5. Wills and estates

Wills, powers of attorney and the practical side of settling an estate.

  6. Civil disputes

Contract and property disagreements, from the first demand letter through to negotiation or court.

The firm

A small firm, on purpose.

Harbor & Lane is built around a simple idea: you should know who is working on your matter and be able to reach them. We take on a limited number of clients at a time, keep our process transparent and put agreements in writing.

We explain the options plainly, then let you decide.

The firm's working principle
  • Founding partner

Leads matters and speaks with every new client first.

  • Associate attorney

Drafts, researches and appears alongside the partner.

  • Paralegal

    Organises documents, deadlines and filings.

  • Client coordinator

Schedules meetings and keeps you updated.

Portraits are illustrations. Roles shown are placeholders for the concept.

How a matter begins

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. Step 1: A first conversation

A short call or meeting to hear the situation and say honestly whether we are the right firm.

  2. Step 2: Written scope and fees

If we proceed, you receive a letter setting out what we will do, who will do it and how fees work.

  3. Step 3: Work and updates

We act on the plan and tell you what has happened in plain terms, without waiting to be asked.

  4. Step 4: Resolution and closing

When the matter ends, we confirm what was done and return your documents.

Questions

Before you call.

Is my first message confidential?

We treat enquiries with care, but until the firm confirms it will act for you, please keep the first message short and leave out sensitive details.

How are fees explained?

Every engagement begins with a written explanation of how fees are calculated and what is likely to be charged. Ask us any question about it before you agree.

Can you tell me if I will win?

No honest lawyer can promise an outcome. We can describe the options, the risks and what a realistic path looks like.

Do you meet remotely?

Yes. Most first conversations can take place by phone or video, and in-person meetings can be arranged at the office.
